A Strange Day

Had kind of an interesting and strange day today. My nephew was in town playing a lacrosse playoff game for his college. I had never had been to a lacrosse match before. Really an interesting game and was quite fun to watch although our team lost 9-10. Never knew it was so rough though. Yikes!

My brother and sister-in law came up from Houston to watch their son play. We met for an early dinner before the game. My niece who lives here had suggested a fairly new restaurant that she wanted to try, so we all met there. OMG It is a place called Bone Daddy's and I think I should of had a clue from the name. The food was pretty good but EVERYWHERE you looked there were female servers that looked like they were probably 17-18 wearing the teeniest shorts with shirts tied up, Minnie Mouse shoes and lace socks. These shorts started WAY down THERE and ended up to THERE. I know that I sound like a fuddy-duddy but these were young girls. They were all adorable. I've never seen so many tanned bodies, good abs, flat stomachs and belly rings. (That's always good for the ego!) I would hate to see the interview process. You should of seen my 10 year old's face. Our cute server's low placed tattoo was just about in his face. Anyway, I was a little irritated at my adult niece for suggesting that kind of place when she knew her little cousin would be there.

We left the restaurant about 5:45 to go to the SMU campus for the game and I rode with my brother and my SIL rode with my husband. (You may not know this but my brother married my husband's sister so we are all double inlaws.) Anyway, we were going down the busy 8-lane freeway having a nice visit and watching for the highway signs when BAM! Someone hit us from behind. We were going probably 60-65 mph so I don't know how fast the other car was going. We were in my SIL's new Infinity that still had dealer tags on it. My brother started pulling over, the other car followed; another car behind her followed as well; and then my Hub and finally my niece. My brother gets out and the lady from the second car comes up to him and said that she had been following the car that hit us and that the lady was drunk. She said that she had almost hit several cars and had even run up on the partition divider once. She was on the phone with 911 trying to report her when she hit us. The driver got out and immediately said how sorry she was to my brother. She was 27 and she was swaying back and forth. This was such a busy freeway and cars were flying by probably 2 feet from our cars pulled off the road. I was so afraid that the woman would fall back into traffic and be run over. My niece's friend grabbed her arm one time and pulled her back toward the inside. My niece is pretty assertive and she jumped out of the car and demanded the woman's license and insurance card and then even managed to get her keys when it looked like she was going to flee. Turns out her insurance was expired. The police finally came and they walked her to to the front of our car where I was sitting to interrogate her. (I was pretty much trapped in the car as we had pulled off as far as possible and there was a wall there. My door couldn't open.) They were having her track a pen with her eyes and of course she couldn't do it. She did take responsibility for the accident.

I will never forget her face though. She was a pretty girl with big haunting eyes. She had been crying but was trying so hard not to when the police were talking to her. She knew she had really screwed up. She looked at me several times and just seemed to be searching my face. She looked so frail and so lost. I really wanted to get out of the car and hug her. Especially when they put handcuffs on her and then led her away. This young woman's life was changed forever in just that instance. The accident may have saved her life but now she also has a heavy price to pay. I can't help but wonder what her story was. I noticed that she wasn't wearing a wedding ring. Don't know if that had anything to do with anything. I wondered if she was drinking out of celebration or pain.

Anyway, I will probably never know the rest of the story, but I know I will be thinking about it for a long time. I hope she has someone to help her. It breaks my heart.

The restaurant sounds interesting. I bet your son got an eyeful!! haha I agree that your niece should not have suggested it!

That is sad about the lady drunk driving. Some people just don't think about consequences when they do something wrong. Hopefully it will change her life for the better.

Thank god no one was hurt! That incident may have saved her life. This post was like an episode of America's Dumbest Criminals only without all the yelling, sirens and replays!
