A Bowl of Cherries

Are you guys proud of me or what? I'm really getting this blogging thing down.....sort of. Embarrassing disclosure: I looked back at my profile and saw that it was being checked out. So I looked at it again later and someone else had looked. I thought WOW. People are checking me out. No one told me that it was going to count the times I looked at it! I'm such a vain goober. It was just me. Hee, hee!

Still nothing on the job front. Hub had kind of shut down thinking that this job was inevitable. Haven't heard a thing. He was really depressed yesterday and somewhat today. I'll be gone tomorrow to my little "mental health job". He has a harder time when I'm not hear to bug him and give him honey-do jobs.

One week from today is our 25th. An anniversary with a name....Silver. Wow that sounds weird. I don't have anything for Hub besides a card. Our trip is certainly enough, but I wish I had a little special something, something to give him commemorate the event.

I did some mega trip shopping yesterday afternoon. It is amazing how much you can rack up in travel stuff. I needed to pick up some shorts, etc. for Hub and I. Then my 10 year old has outgrown everything from last year and it is getting shorts weather for him too. Half the time he looks like an orphan because he picks out his own clothes. I will have to match him up some things for next week while he is staying with friends.

I had Hub pull out the suitcases today. That is where I truly stress out is in packing. I over-think everything especially when I am sending my son somewhere else. With all the airline regulations now, it is even tougher. I heard that on May 14 they will start charging for a second bag. So glad we are travelling earlier.

Rox, I checked out the blog of the girl that sent you the package. (Tee) Really interesting gal. Where do you come up with all these people?

Well enough of my mundane life. Like my FIL use to say, "Life is just a bowl of cherries and a cracked bowl at that". I have no idea what that means but somehow it seemed appropriate.

Later.

Smile

You gotta love you-tube! Whenever I go there to look at something, I end up staying for a long time looking at other things. You can find it all. Anyway, I think Anita Renfroe is a total hoot! Enjoy this........then check out her other videos.

Feeling Better

Hello my two friends!

Well, I feel a little better about the sad, lost, big-eyed, drunk driver girl. Her insurance adjuster called today to get my statement. (Yes, it turns out that she had insurance after all. Whew!) Anyway, I asked him if she was still in jail. He said no, she was at home. I asked if she had anyone to help her and he said that she lives with her mother. He called her just before me to get her statement and she told him "I have never been in any trouble before." She sounded like she was crying. So-o-o-o at least she isn't sitting in a nasty, scary jail cell and I know that she does have a support system here. I guess I can go worry about someone else now. How pathetic!

I don't know about you guys, but the end of April and May just makes me nuts. It seems like there is something every single day. My son's ballgames, guitar lessons, recitals, end of school year "stuff", doctor appointments, eek!

My son was home from school sick today. (He came to our bedroom at 1 am to puke in our bathroom instead of his, thank you very much.) I thought he would be better in the morning, but he still was queasy. Then I thought he would be better in the afternoon, but he looked pale and weak. Had to cancel his orthodontist appointment. Tried to re-schedule and we were into the middle of JUNE before we could find a time without a major conflict. Finally, we backed up and they are seeing him at 8:30 a.m. the week after our trip. Then I had to contact his baseball coach to let him know that he would not be at the ballgame tonight. I'm afraid that the guy is a little ticked because we backed out of practice on Saturday to go to the inappropriate restaurant with family. I always thought it was terrible when moms over-scheduled their kids. Now I realize how easily it happens.

Been watching the weather forecast down in Mexico. So far, they are forecasting rain for the first 3 days of our vacation. Oh, well, there are always massages. My list is long of things to get done this week. I need at least a two hour Wal-Mart trip to get mosquito repellent, suntan lotion, sunburn lotion, water shoes, sunglasses that only make little lines on your face, etc. Can't wait to get there and chill in the heat!

Hope everyone has had a good day....both of you. :)

A Strange Day

Had kind of an interesting and strange day today. My nephew was in town playing a lacrosse playoff game for his college. I had never had been to a lacrosse match before. Really an interesting game and was quite fun to watch although our team lost 9-10. Never knew it was so rough though. Yikes!

My brother and sister-in law came up from Houston to watch their son play. We met for an early dinner before the game. My niece who lives here had suggested a fairly new restaurant that she wanted to try, so we all met there. OMG It is a place called Bone Daddy's and I think I should of had a clue from the name. The food was pretty good but EVERYWHERE you looked there were female servers that looked like they were probably 17-18 wearing the teeniest shorts with shirts tied up, Minnie Mouse shoes and lace socks. These shorts started WAY down THERE and ended up to THERE. I know that I sound like a fuddy-duddy but these were young girls. They were all adorable. I've never seen so many tanned bodies, good abs, flat stomachs and belly rings. (That's always good for the ego!) I would hate to see the interview process. You should of seen my 10 year old's face. Our cute server's low placed tattoo was just about in his face. Anyway, I was a little irritated at my adult niece for suggesting that kind of place when she knew her little cousin would be there.

We left the restaurant about 5:45 to go to the SMU campus for the game and I rode with my brother and my SIL rode with my husband. (You may not know this but my brother married my husband's sister so we are all double inlaws.) Anyway, we were going down the busy 8-lane freeway having a nice visit and watching for the highway signs when BAM! Someone hit us from behind. We were going probably 60-65 mph so I don't know how fast the other car was going. We were in my SIL's new Infinity that still had dealer tags on it. My brother started pulling over, the other car followed; another car behind her followed as well; and then my Hub and finally my niece. My brother gets out and the lady from the second car comes up to him and said that she had been following the car that hit us and that the lady was drunk. She said that she had almost hit several cars and had even run up on the partition divider once. She was on the phone with 911 trying to report her when she hit us. The driver got out and immediately said how sorry she was to my brother. She was 27 and she was swaying back and forth. This was such a busy freeway and cars were flying by probably 2 feet from our cars pulled off the road. I was so afraid that the woman would fall back into traffic and be run over. My niece's friend grabbed her arm one time and pulled her back toward the inside. My niece is pretty assertive and she jumped out of the car and demanded the woman's license and insurance card and then even managed to get her keys when it looked like she was going to flee. Turns out her insurance was expired. The police finally came and they walked her to to the front of our car where I was sitting to interrogate her. (I was pretty much trapped in the car as we had pulled off as far as possible and there was a wall there. My door couldn't open.) They were having her track a pen with her eyes and of course she couldn't do it. She did take responsibility for the accident.

I will never forget her face though. She was a pretty girl with big haunting eyes. She had been crying but was trying so hard not to when the police were talking to her. She knew she had really screwed up. She looked at me several times and just seemed to be searching my face. She looked so frail and so lost. I really wanted to get out of the car and hug her. Especially when they put handcuffs on her and then led her away. This young woman's life was changed forever in just that instance. The accident may have saved her life but now she also has a heavy price to pay. I can't help but wonder what her story was. I noticed that she wasn't wearing a wedding ring. Don't know if that had anything to do with anything. I wondered if she was drinking out of celebration or pain.

Anyway, I will probably never know the rest of the story, but I know I will be thinking about it for a long time. I hope she has someone to help her. It breaks my heart.

Gotta Love Saturday Mornings

Saturday mornings.....ahhh. Sleeping in. Lazy mornings snuggling with sweet faced kids. Really good coffee. Not at my house. Except maybe for the coffee. Why does the phone have to ring at 7am on Saturday. Then it is the sweet faced child whining about about being hungry and what's for breakfast. Hey, I fed him yesterday. What's the deal! (Don't call child protective services. I'm just kidding.)

Guess I am a little cranky this morning because I've been up most of the night with a sick Hub. Our neighbors had a party last night and he imbibed just a little (way) too much. He has had a really stressful week or two and he just "let loose". He paid dearly during the night and looks pretty tough this morning. I'm not feeling overly sympathetic at the moment. Just tired. Glad I'm not a spouse that has to do this every weekend. Just once every 5 years or so.

The party last night was to celebrate our neighbors leaving on a cruise early this morning. To me this is nuts as I am usually up all night before a trip, but it is obsessing with making sure everything is packed, the house looks good (just in case), etc. This couple is really young and have gone on a cruise at least once every year of their maybe 3 year marriage. They have a party the night before every time and do their packing at probably 4 am the day of departure. Youth is so wasted on the young!

Well, I had better get started. Today is particularly busy whether I'm ready for it or not.

I think I will go get another cup of coffee.........

I FINALLY DID IT!!!

Well, this is it. After much encouragement (Rox), I actually started a blog. Not sure where to go with this (or where it will go) but here it is. Warts and all.

About the title.....I haven't a clue. It just kind of came to me. I guess this is about me opening up about my world as I see it and the fingerprints of life that others leave on me. Sometimes the fingerprints only show up when the light shines. Maybe I will leave my fingerprint on others as well.

I have a mostly wonderful husband of twenty-five years next month, two sons, a step-daughter living in another state, two dogs, a cat and a cockatiel. Yes, I live in a zoo. I have declared that nothing else comes in to this home that eats or poops. We thought a few months ago about trying to lessen our pet population. You know the rule....last one in, first one out. But how do you get rid of someone that whistles at you every time you walk in the room? Man, I love that bird!

Just like everyone else, I have had and have my smorgasbord of issues. Sometimes stuff just stinks. I find myself both anticipating, yet really apprehensive at the same time, of what the next day, weeks, months will bring. For instance: my husband lost his job a few weeks ago. Guess what! We're leaving in about 1 week and a half for a week long vacation in a fabulous resort in Mexico. That just seems nuts!!! But man do we need the vacation and it was already paid for. We are celebrating our anniversary which, after all, is something to celebrate. On a brighter note, hub is out of town right now on an interview trip that looks really promising. Maybe good news tomorrow or next week!

Oh well, I've rambled a little tonight on this first post. Maybe I will get to know others through this and they will get to know me. Maybe I will get to know me better, too.
